Annual Conference

A highlight of each year is the annual gathering in the Rochester, NY area for a multi-day event of fellowship, information exchange, flea marketing and the sharing of communications history and technology.  In addition to a series of presentations and the flea market each year an AWA Museum open house provides all to explore changes to the collection displays over the past year.

2021 Annual Conference

AWA is planning to resume the “in-person” annual AWA conferences in 2021. In order to give as much time for the distribution of COVID vaccines into the general population and thereby increase the probability that we can have an in-person conference, the 2021 AWA Annual Conference has been rescheduled to October 5 to 9, 2021 at the RIT Inn and Conference Center. The dual themes will be “100 Years of Radio Broadcasting” and “The Evolution of Amateur Radio”. Hopefully a rapid distribution of the COVID vaccines will make the world safer and an in-person Conference possible.

2021 AWA Conference Doings – July 2, 2021 Update

I would like to invite everyone to attend the 2021 AWA Annual Conference to be held Tuesday, October 5th, through October 9th.  The Conference is being held at the R.I.T. Inn and Conference Center located at 5257 W. Henrietta Rd, Henrietta, NY 14467.  We have two themes this year.  One being the Evolution of Amateur Radio and the second being 100 years of Radio Broadcasting.  A great group of 12 presenters have volunteered to discuss various topics within both themes of this year’s Conference.

The 2021 AWA Conference will be a fun filled, educational, entertaining opportunity to renew old friendships and make many new friends.

Buyers access to the Flea Market is free.  This year continues the low pricing for purchasing a sellers pass that is good for entire duration of the Flea Market starting early on Thursday morning and going through Saturday.  We invite you to register for the Conference and enjoy all that it has to offer, but you don’t need to register for the Conference to sell in the Flea Market.

Remember, registration to the Conference includes the free dessert social on Wednesday and new this year is a free Friday night banquet dinner.  Don’t forget to extend your stay to include Friday evening!  You will also enjoy free admission to the Antique Wireless Museum on Wednesday evening.  It includes entrance to all Conference events, including the Saturday auction. As always, your spouse or significant other Conference registration is free.

While AWA welcomes all registrations including walk-ins, we must commit to numbers for meals and plan events a week in advance with the hotel. Late reservations mean AWA incurs extra costs that hopefully can be avoided. It also means you can be assured of reservation for meals. We are trying to hold the line on the cost of registration. Your help in this regard is appreciated. Please refer to the registration card enclosed or visit on-line reservation information on the AWA website.  This year all registration material will be available at the AWA registration desk which opens on Tuesday October 5th. We will not be mailing any registration material. I am happy to report that my wife Martha – N3QBE will be handling duties at the registration desk.

Don’t forget our “Welcome Dinner” on Tuesday night where you will enjoy relaxing conversation with other AWA members just arriving for the Conference.

The “Members Meeting” is a great time to catch up on accomplishments, future plans for AWA and your Antique Wireless Museum. AWA officers and Museum staff will be there to answer your questions.

A special thanks to Chris Bacon and Geoff Bourne who have come up with a fabulous set of contest rules centered on this year’s dual conference themes of “Evolution of Amateur Radio” and “100 Years of Radio Broadcasting”.

Once again, our event will again be held at the RIT Inn and Conference Center, 5257 W Henrietta Rd, Henrietta, NY 14467.  TO MAKE ROOM RESERVATIONS AT THE RIT INN for the Conference special rate, you must call 585-359-1800.  DO NOT USE the 800 number.  You will not be able to book your room at the special convention room rate if you use the 800-telephone number.

We believe the 2021 AWA Convention will be a great time for all.
